Ocracoke Artwalk Last Saturday of September Annually
ARTWALK - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008
Over 40 Ocracoke Island artists open their studios and galleries to visitors. Free event and free shuttle - Don't miss this great day!
The Ocracoke Art
Walk, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts through a
rural art initiative, is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2008.
Its purpose is to showcase the artwork of our talented and diverse
artists and craftspeople. Approximately ten percent of Ocracoke’s
population is considered a visual artist and many participate in the
Art Walk.
The Art Walk gives island artists a chance to display their work
either in their own creative environment or in the location of the
retail outlet that handles their work. An Art Walk map will be
available pinpointing the location and type of work by each artist. In
order to be listed as a participant in the Art Walk, you must be living
and working on Ocracoke Island and be present on that day at the
location where your work is exhibited. Registration forms will be going
out to all artists on the organizer’s list later in the summer. If you
are an Ocracoke artist and have never been approached about the Art
Walk, please contact one of the 2008 organizers – Barbara Hardy, Amy
Howard, Nancy Leach, or Ann Ehringhaus – to make sure you are on this
year’s list.
Most of our local artists have their work exhibited in one or more of
the galleries throughout the village. Just ask in any of Ocracoke’s
retail businesses, and the clerks will identify local artists’ work for
you.
So mark your calendar to attend Ocracoke’s Art Walk the last Saturday
in September and join us in celebrating the creative energy that is
inherent in Ocracoke’s soul.
If you would like to help
support this event, please send donations to the Ocracoke Civic and
Business Association, PO Box 456 with a memo that the check is for the
Art Walk.
